“I am crazy or Spirit is trying to get my attention”

I love how the Universe works. Since I moved to Maui a year and a half ago, I have learned how “TO BE” and to relax and enjoy the moment. I have been praying about what to DO next in my life in regards to using my gifts. It felt like it was time for me to do something and I asked Spirit “to bring it to me.” I trusted that whatever (person, place, or thing) was in my highest good, it would appear at the perfect and right time. It is also called the art of “allowing.” I no longer had to push and make things happen, as I did for so many years.

I stopped at a yard sale on my way to church on Sunday. My CD Walkman broke several years ago and I hadn’t replaced it. There on the corner of the table was a brand new Walkman still in the package for $5.  I asked, “Will you take $3 and she immediately said, “Yes,” I walked away with a smile on my face and a brand new Walkman. I am going to Rhode Island for a month to visit family and friends and thought it would be a great idea to listen to some old CDs.

I opened the Walkman today to see how it worked. I have a box of CDs that I brought with me when I moved here to Maui and came across a 4 CD set called “Radical Manifestation” by Colin Tipping, I purchased the set of CDs several years ago and thought they would be great to listen to again. I put them aside and didn’t open them to see if all the CDs were there. I also found a brand new CD that was still in the package that I had purchased when I went on my cruise 2 years ago.  It was called Steel Band – Music of the Caribbean. It sounded like fun so I opened the package to listen to it. When I put this CD into my CD player, I fully expected to hear Steel Band Caribbean music.

I was shocked when I heard Colin Tipping, author of Radical Manifestation speaking. I quickly opened the CD player to see what was going on. It was the first CD of the set of 4 from Radical Manifestation CDs. I couldn’t understand how it got in there and wondered where the Steel Band Caribbean CD went? It was gone! I am not kidding you; it was nowhere to be found. I then checked the CD set that I had set aside and sure enough the first CD was missing (the one that was now playing in my CD).

Either I was going crazy or Spirit was playing games and trying to get my attention. I have never experienced anything like this before. I thought, “I better pay attention to this because this is not normal stuff, God must be speaking and I better listen up!” Of course, I immediately started to listen to the Radical Manifestation CDs and then the inspiration came.

Before I even finished listening to the first CD, I had the inspiration to create my own Radical Manifestation workshop. I certainly had enough “personal experience” to do a great workshop on manifestation. My friends in Rhode Island call me a “magical manifester.” When I finished listening to the first CD, I picked up the phone and called Kaunoa Senior Center where I had given workshops when I first came to Maui. I met with the activities director today and will be teaching Radical Manifestation October 3, 2013.

That same day, I received an email from my friend Ros, who owns a beautiful Bed and Breakfast in Maui. I met Ros last year when I attended a retreat and stayed at her B&B. I gave her my book when I left. She started her email with, “I just had a thought as I was reading your blog this morning. As you are a coach in assisting people find the right track for their lives – here is what I would like for you to consider. What do you think about offering individual one-on- one retreats for several days even a couple of weeks? It could be anything from one day sessions to a 3-to-10 day retreat. The majority of the food will be prepared utilizing local organic fruits and vegetables, and free range eggs, fish, chicken and lamb.” One of the other teachers she has invited to consider being a part of this is Ram Dass. Ram Dass is a well- known spiritual teacher living on Maui and just seeing my name on the same page made me excited.

I emailed Ros back and told her I was very interested and we have already started planning it. It is my passion to lead retreats and coach people to find the God within. God gave me a mantra several years ago that I repeat often. It is “I am a star that shines brightly to lead others to the God within.” God does answer prayer. I had asked God to show me what to do next and to bring it to me. Do you think my prayer was answered? I sure do. The next day, I was putting away the CD’s that were on my table and what shows up mysteriously but the Caribbean CD. I am still scratching my head over this one.

I have learned to ask for what I want in all areas of my life. The first chapter in my book, Simply a Woman of Faith is about asking God for things I need at yard sales. Here are a couple of the stories.

“I started going to yard sales many years ago out of necessity. My husband was out of work for a year. There wasn’t enough money for the basics for the two of us and our four small children. I found my children’s clothes at my weekly yard sales. The clothes almost looked brand new after I brought them home and washed them. While they were young, the children never knew the clothes came from yard sales and I could get away with it. When they got older, I had to sneak the stuff into the house so they wouldn’t know where they came from.  My faith was strengthened whenever God answered a prayer request and I found just what I was looking for.

God, Joe needs shoes for his job interview. You know we can’t afford $150 for a new pair of black wing tip shoes. I know this is not the usual request and it may take a while to find since he’s a size 12D. I trust you God.

God must look down and smile at some of my unique prayer requests. A size 12D man’s shoe was a tall order, even for God. This didn’t happen overnight, but I didn’t give up. I kept praying, asking and going to yard sales. One of these days, I’ll find them, I thought to myself.

I did a double take when I walked into the yard sale and spotted boxes of shoes stacked neatly on the table. I raced over to the table, my heart pounding loudly. I carefully opened all the boxes hoping to find size 12 D black wing tip shoes. It didn’t look like they had any large sizes and I was about to give up. With that, a man walked over to me and asked if I needed help. “You don’t have what I’m looking for,” I responded. “What do you need?”  I kind of chuckled and said, “I need size 12D man’s shoes – preferably, black wing tips.” “Wait a minute, I think I have some larger sizes over here. Follow me.” I held my breath anticipating what we might find. He opened all the boxes searching for a 12D. “Yes, here we go. Is this what you are looking for?” He held up a shiny pair of black wing tip – 12D. “I could hardly get the words out of my mouth. “Are you sure they’re a size 12D?” “Yes, lady. The size is right here. Look size 12D.” He pointed to the size marking on the inner leather.  “How much?” He thought about it for a moment and then said, “Twenty-five dollars will do.”  “It’s a deal, I’ll take them.”

God’s love and care never cease to amaze me and I wanted to shout it from the housetops. I couldn’t hold back and blurted out, “I’m so happy I came here today. My husband is out of work and has a job interview next week. He didn’t have any dress shoes and he couldn’t afford to buy new ones. I’ve been praying to find new shoes at a yard sale. I knew God would answer my prayers.”

He looked at me kindly and said, “I sold my shoe store a year ago. These shoes were leftovers. They weren’t doing me any good in the basement and I just wanted to get rid of them. Glad you found what you were looking for.” I paid for the shoes and thanked him. I couldn’t wait to get home and have my husband try them on. I ran into the house and shouted, “Joe, guess what? I found new shoes for you at a yard sale – and they’re wing tips.” He looked a bit apprehensive at first, but smiled and sat down to try them on. I held my breath as I watched him slip his foot into the shoe. Just like Cinderella, the shoe fit like a glove. God is faithful. He wants to provide for His children. We need to only ask and believe.

My daughter Mary called me and said, “Mom, I broke my foot last night.” “What happened? Are you okay?” I asked anxiously. “I fell down the cellar stairs, but I’m okay.” “Did you get an x- ray?” “No, I’ll be all right mom. Don’t worry. “Can you get me a walking cast at the hospital?” “They don’t have them there.” I replied. “I’ll go to the hospital supply store tomorrow after I go “yard sailing” and buy you one.” “Thanks mom. See you tomorrow.”

I sure wish she’d get an x-ray, but she’s thirty years old and is going to do it her way,I reminded myself. The walking cast was the furthest thing from my mind as I strolled around this particular yard sale. I bought a few things for the house and paid the lady when out of the corner of my eye, I spotted it.

God, am I seeing right? That looks like a walking cast sitting there in the middle of the driveway. “Excuse me, but is that a walking cast over there?” “Yes, I bought it for my husband a few years ago and he never used it.” “Oh, how much are you asking for it?” “One dollar.” “Sold.”

I walked out of the yard sale with a smile on my face and a skip in my step. I drove straight to Mary’s house. I couldn’t wait to tell her the good news. I hurried into her house and found her sitting with her leg propped up on the living room couch.”Mary, guess what? I found a walking cast at a yard sale, try it on and see if it fits.” “It fits perfectly.” It didn’t take her long before she was up and wobbling around.

The beauty of my “yard sailing” lies not just in the price, but the knowledge that God does care about the details. His answers to my yard sale prayers constantly remind me that I’m taken care of, that God is in my life and that He wants me to have all I need and desire. The fun I have finding these bargains reminds me that God has fun when I have fun. I think God enjoys placing bargains in my path as much as I enjoy finding them.”

Whether it be asking God to guide me and bring something to me at the perfect and right time, or asking to be provided for at yard sales, God is faithful and hears my prayers.

Daily Word – June 27, 2013

I am eager to serve God and others and be the best I can be. I do this most fully when I love what I do and express that love in words and actions. When I am passionate about something, that passion shows in all I say and do. I excite and enliven others with my passion and allow it to carry me to new heights. My deepest desire is to demonstrate the spirit of God within – a spirit of life and zeal. Spirit within fuels my passion and spurs me to right action. I am encouraged and committed as I stay connected to the spirit of God through prayer. Prayer lights the fire within me. If my motivation lags, a moment of quiet prayer rekindles my passion and reignites my zeal.

I would like to share with you what Spirit revealed to me in prayer yesterday.  I picked an angel card and it was the angel of TRUST. This is what it said, “You are about to experience an accelerated period of spiritual growth and breakthrough in which your definitions of love will change. You are encouraged to maintain your trust and belief in yourself as a worthy and effective vehicle of positive action. Whatever your fears, insecurities, the angels are working with you to bring you into greater clarity with the nature of love. Love is the capacity to allow all other living things to grow into the fullest expression of self. The love that you are learning to give is the same that you long to receive: without judgment, acceptance of differences, kind and forgiving, hopeful and courageous. TRUST holds love in place in your life.

I believe this message is not only for me, but for you who are reading this. Love is all there is. We all want to be loved and to love. It is who we are and where we came from. God is love, we are love.  We are called to love our neighbor as ourselves.  Many ask, what is my purpose in life? I believe that my purpose in life is to love. First and foremost, I must love myself. Can I really love another if I don’t love myself? I don’t know all the answers, but I don’t think so. Since God and I are ONE can I love God if I don’t love myself?

Learning to love myself has been a lifelong process and will be until I leave this earth. I have shared in other blogs that there was a time that I didn’t love myself or believe in myself. I compared myself to others and beat up on myself when I didn’t measure up or I made a mistake. I have an example that happened this morning that I could see my growth. I woke up early because I had to go to the lab and get blood tests. I found the paper I needed to bring with me and put it on the kitchen table. I got dressed and off I went to the lab. I arrived at the lab and was about to get out of the car when I spotted a man walking in with a piece of paper in his hands. I said out loud, “Oh, I left the paper on the kitchen table.” I immediately started thanking God (because it is my belief that all things happen for my good) and turned my car around and drove home to get the paper. I didn’t say one disparaging remark to myself about forgetting the paper. What would you have said to yourself? Be honest!

Another thought just came to me. If I don’t love myself, can I truly allow another to love me? I don’t know. I have to ask myself, “Do I feel deserving and worthy of love?”  How many times have we blocked our good and what God wants to give us because we didn’t feel worthy and deserving? I remember when my friend Ellen invited me to stay in her condo in Maui (while she was away) for a month in 2011. I was feeling “unsettled and guilty” the week before the trip and as I prayed about it, Spirit showed me on a deeper level that I was feeling unworthy and undeserving. Thankfully, I recognized this distorted belief and quickly changed it to the truth of who I am as a child of God. Today, I am living and loving in Maui. I shudder to think that I could have blocked my good and receiving this gift to live in Maui because I didn’t feel deserving and worthy (which sometimes masked itself as guilt).

I read in Alan Cohen’s book, “Enough Already.”  “I do not worry about what will happen in the future or “someday.” Deep in my soul, I AM READY to be a full expression of God’s spirit right now. I give thanks for the opportunity to fulfill my heart’s desires. Aligning my thoughts with Spirit, I proclaim what is true about me and for me. Align your thoughts, feelings, words and actions with a success attitude and positive events will follow. People who have an abundance mentality keep attracting more of what they want and need. Those with a lack mentality keep attracting something missing.”

For a long time it has been my heart’s desire to travel. I was a speaker on the Norwegian Cruise Ship to Mexico In January, 2012.  I had a fabulous time and since then, I have wanted to go on another cruise. Every time I see the Norwegian cruise ship in the Kahului Harbor, I say to myself or to whoever I am driving with, “I really want to go on another cruise.” I even have a picture of a cruise ship on my kitchen cabinet.

A couple of weeks ago, my friend, Larry,  invited me to go with him on a 12- day cruise to Denmark, Norway, Sweden, German and Scotland – all expenses paid! We will fly into London and spend 3 days there and then go on the cruise.  I have never been to Europe nor have I ever traveled with a man other than my husband or finance. I know friends of the opposite sex travel together all the time, but this is new territory for me, for sure.  I asked myself some questions:

*Did I attract this gift into my life by aligning my thoughts and feelings to what Spirit wanted for me?

*Could I accept this trip as a gift from God?

*Did I feel deserving and worthy?

*Could I trust myself and my intuition that this was right for me?

*Was I willing to take a risk and travel with someone of the opposite sex (without any strings attached?)

*Was I ready to be a full expression of God’s spirit and fulfill my heart’s desires?

Of course, I felt excited about the prospect of going to Europe on a cruise. I told Larry, “I will pray about it and let you know.” I can hear some of you who are reading this-pray about it, are you nuts? Well, I did pray about it and went inside to see how it felt. I felt peaceful and excited. I have learned to trust my inner guidance and intuition as God’s voice within.

I am happy to say that the answer is YES to Larry’s invitation to go on a cruise with him. I say yes to God and to all the good that God wants to give me. I am deserving and worthy to give and receive more love in my life. I realize that I have received more than I asked for because the universe had a bigger idea for me than I had for myself. TRUST holds love in place in my life.

The Wind Star (name of ship we will be sailing on) is a sleek, four-masted sailing yacht accommodating 148 guests. With four decks and a gross tonnage of 5,350, the Wind Star feels like your own private yacht. Wind Star features wide open, teak decks—quite unusual for small ships. With over 10,000 square feet of open deck space, guests will find hidden nooks for private moments giving them a feeling of being on their own private verandah.

I just received an email from a friend and this is what she wrote: When you surrender to the wind…you can FLY!!  And that is exactly what I find myself doing. Without controlling the how, why, and where…great blessings are appearing…and offering me the opportunity to SOAR!!  Life has lifted me from the stagnant waters of hesitation…and placed me smack dab in the center of experiential BLISS!!

YOU DON’T HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO GET WHAT YOU WANT; ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW IS WHAT YOU WANT

This is a subtle but paramountly important and exciting key to personal success. It means that there is much more to the universe than we have believed, and if we really expect to realize our dreams, we must allow God to deliver our blessings to us in ways deeper than we can plan and understand. There is an old saying that “The Lord moves in mysterious ways.” God is like the driver of a universal Greyhound bus. Once we have decided where we want to go, we can “sit back and leave the driving to Him.” If we would just choose a nice window sear and relax, we would find ourselves as our destination in no time. Instead, we make it hard for ourselves because first of all we are not sure which bus to get on; we vacillate at the ticket counter, mulling indecisively over a number of possible destinations. The agent can’t sell us a ticket if we don’t tell him where we want to go. Then once we’ve made our decision and we’ve stepped aboard the Greyhound to God, we immediately try to wrestle the wheel away from the Driver, insisting we know a better way. Then, even after we have surrendered the wheel and we arrive, we have a tendency to want to hide in the back of the bus, wondering if this is really where we want to go. And maybe we should turn back.  Alan Cohen – Rising in Love pg 75

I would like to end with my favorite scripture. “For I know the plans I have in mind for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29-13

“Disappointments are the hooks upon which God hangs his victories.

“Disappointments are the hooks upon which God hangs his victories. There is a way to deal with disappointments that can make you a winner.  Remove the D and replace it with H. Thus, disappointment becomes “HISAPPOINTMENT.” In other words, remove the incident from the projections of your expectations and imagine that God has caused the situation to turn out this way because He has a bigger and better plan than the one you formulated. Our idea of the way things should be pales in the face of God’s vision for how good it can and will be.”  Dare to Be Yourself – Alan Cohen pg. 179

We’ve all had experiences of being disappointed when things don’t go the way we thought they were going to go.  We need to know how to work through the disappointment and not “stay stuck” or resentful because things didn’t go the way we wanted or expected them to go. It is an opportunity to trust God that whatever is happening is for our good.  I must admit that much of my disappointments have come from “I want what I want and I want it now” attitude. Can you relate?

I love HISAPPOINTMENT because whenever I’m not sure of what is the best path for me, I pray and ask God to either open or close the door. When God closes the door, I trust that there is something bigger and better for me. I have experienced closed doors at the very last minute, and it has always been for my good. This spoke to me because I was feeling very disappointed over something that happened during the week. While I was at church a few weeks ago, I spotted a very nice looking man sitting by himself in the back of the church. I wondered if he was new because I had never seen him before. As we were all walking out, I turned around and he was behind me. I introduced myself and we began talking. He just moved here from the Big Island and he said, “It is my second time here and it was suggested that I come to Unity because I am looking for this GOD THING.” That was all I needed to hear and blurted out, “Would you like to go for coffee or a walk sometime?” His face lit up and he said, “Yes, I would love to do that.” I laughed and said, “I am not usually this forward.”  I gave him my business card with my phone number on it. He said he would call me.

I was really excited and later shared with my girlfriends what happened. I described the feeling that I had when we smiled at one another. I actually had a physical sensation and felt a strong connection with him.  I felt the disappointment as the week went on that I hadn’t heard from him. I worked on letting go and trusting that it was a closed door. I wondered if he was threatened by my profession as a coach and author or worse yet, I thought perhaps he thought I wanted to get together so I could be his life coach.  Good lesson for me to learn for the future. I will not give a man my card that I am interested in!

I looked for him this past Sunday at church, but he wasn’t there. What happened next is really amazing because I received a “God wink.” I stopped to talk to one of the women before going into church. She said, “Pat, I have to tell you what happened when I worked at the new bookstore in the mall on Monday. A man came in and asked for Pat Hastings’ book, “Simply a Woman of Faith”. I said, Oh, I know Pat Hastings, but I don’t think we have her book. I was stunned and asked her, “Was his name John?” She said, “Yes, it was.”

What are the chances of me finding out that the day after we met that he went to the bookstore to find my book?  I felt grateful that I didn’t make up “this connection”  in my head and that perhaps he felt the same connection. I don’t know the reason why God closed the door (that he didn’t call) and I don’t need to know. Perhaps he found the book in another bookstore and the book will help him find this “GOD THING.” I know for sure that I am to pray for him that he finds what he is searching for. I have let go and trust that if we are meant to talk in the future, we will.

There is another opportunity in my life that I am praying about and asking God to open or close the door. I only want God’s will and it is not clear to me yet what that is.  All I know is that it is new territory for me, and that can be scary. But I am trusting divine love and guidance. It seems like God is inviting me to “receive” something that I have wanted for a long time and on a “silver platter.” It almost feels like it is too good to be true, but I know that everything that is good is true. Do I feel deserving and worthy to receive this gift from God? YES, I DO, and if God opens the door, I am going for it with gusto! I will share with you when the door is opened or closed.

I just learned a name for a behavior I once practiced in my life through reading Alan Cohen’s book, “Dare to be Yourself.” It is called a “Planaholic.” It states “our culture is obsessed with planning and much of it is inspired by fear. Heavy scheduling is a way to avoid intimacy. If we are constantly busy, we don’t have to face our feelings and deal with issues in relationships. If you are busy doing, doing, doing out of fear of being, you will never release that magnificent person who is calling to live and breathe and bring unique and precious gifts to the world.”

I am happy to say I am a recovering “Planaholic” and am so grateful for this wonderful shift in consciousness. It is amazing because today I prefer to live my day without plans. It feels so good to be in the flow, spontaneous and follow my intuition all through my day. I wake up and say, “thank you God for the miracles and surprises that will come my way today.” Course in Miracles  states,“The healed mind does not plan.” I lived in my head for such a long time and didn’t trust my intuition. Today, I trust my heart and intuition because I believe God speaks to us through our intuition. If I listened to my head and not my heart, I would not be on this sacred journey to Maui.  When I meet people and they ask me, “What brought you to Maui, I say, MY HEART.”

Since I no longer “do, do, do” and am learning to BE and feel, I am discovering more of myself and living the life of my dreams. It is truly the greatest adventure of my life since I followed my heart and moved to Maui. I am discovering the real me and finding the beauty and magnificence within. God is calling us all to walk this sacred journey of finding the love within. A Course in Miracles states “We are here to discover the blocks to our awareness of love’s presence, so we can release this and let our true loving nature shine forth in full splendor.”

“I am in the Flow”

I love when I am IN THE FLOW and allow my day to unfold in peace, ease and grace, trusting everything is unfolding according to a divine plan. I trust I AM exactly where I am meant to be and trust that what will come in the next moment will be for my highest good.  Being IN THE FLOW means I know that ALL that I need is flowing to me easily and effortlessly.  Being IN THE FLOW means I have an attitude of gratitude, especially when things appear to be not going the way I would like them to go. For example, I drove 35 miles to the other side of Maui to attend a dance last night. When I arrived and got out of the car, I had a flat tire. I immediately thanked God for protecting me and getting me there safely. It could have been disastrous if I had had a blowout on the dark single lane, windy highway that I traveled through the edge of the mountains and along the coastal cliffs. I called AAA and they were there within the hour to fix my tire. All my needs were taken care of and I thanked God all the way home.

When I am IN THE FLOW, I am willing to let go and let God on a daily basis. I let go of fear, lack consciousness, control, people pleasing, my plan, judgement, anger, wanting others approval and impatience, to name just a few. I recently read in Daily Word that “It can be terrifying to let go as we pass through the wilderness on the way from limited knowledge to greater self-understanding. True letting go or releasing means that we have trust in our divine self to allow a greater personal self to emerge. God always has good for us and we will have to let go of the lesser in order to receive the greater.”

I would love to say that I am always IN THE FLOW. I have learned that it is unrealistic to expect that, but it is certainly my goal and intention to live from a place of love and trust on a daily basis.  I have more days of being IN THE FLOW than I have ever had in my life. At the end of the day, I often see how perfectly the day unfolded when I just allowed it to happen and trusted my intuition. I use to love having lists and agendas and being able to check them off at the end of the day. It gave me a sense of control and success.  Of course, there is nothing wrong with lists and accomplishing things, and in fact, if I don’t write things down, I often forget them!

What I am talking about is a major shift that has occurred in my being and the way I do and see things. I love not having anything on my plate for a day – and then following the energy of what I feel like doing and what God is calling me to do.  It is exciting to see what turns up.  For example, I might be standing in line waiting to have lunch and end up meeting people who invite me to join them, or I find the perfect picture that I absolutely love and have been “looking” for, or unexpectedly encountering two turtles in the ocean and being able to play with them.

You may be thinking as you read this, “I am too busy and have too many things to do to be IN THE FLOW,” yet you are important and deserve to take time for yourself to just BE and do what you want to do. It is not only necessary but crucial to your spiritual well-being. God wants you to experience a deeper walk with Him/Her but you must be willing to give yourself time to hear the small still voice of God and follow your intuition. That means you have to make the time to go within. Start out small and see what happens, you might really like it!

My lesson for this week was about welcoming in all of my feelings and not judging them. Feelings are not right or wrong and they pass like the passing clouds if I allow them.  As I watched the couples and children playing in the ocean and laughing, I felt a sense of loneliness and I went to an “old behavior” of thinking to myself “I must be doing something wrong” that I am alone. Thoughts like, “I should have joined a club to meet people, volunteered or did something.” Then I realized that I was trying to “fix” me or change “what is.”  Right now, I am alone which gives me a great opportunity to deepen my relationship with God and come home to myself-my soul. I am connecting more with my God-self and my essence. In fact, I am beginning to think that has been the whole purpose of these last 6 months of living in Maui. It has been about receiving God’s unconditional love, trusting my intuition, loving myself and remembering I am ONE with God. As I open myself to receive more of God’s love, I am able to BE love and give love to all I meet. I am Love.

In prayer one night, I did some journaling and asked God some important questions and I decided to share them with you.

Pat: God, what do you want me to do for the next 5 weeks while I am in Maui?

God: I want you to live the life I am offering you. I am inviting you to go deeper with me and come home to yourself.

Pat: What do you mean God?

God: You must stop judging where you are, or thinking that you are doing something wrong. You are doing everything right, by showing up and going with the flow. Do you know how many people have to have agendas and have no idea how to go with the flow? You are living your dream and that is your spiritual work. Stop worrying that you are not doing enough. You are doing more than you know by being in the flow, trusting me on a daily basis and asking for all of your needs to be met.

Pat: How do I handle the lonely feeling I sometimes feel when I see couples and children having fun and I am alone?

God: You must feel your feelings. Welcome them in and don’t judge them. They will pass. Be compassionate with yourself. I know what you want and it will come. You must continue to be patient and to trust in my divine timing and plan. You are my beloved and I am well pleased with you, for you are following your heart, inspiring others and sharing my love with the world. Relax Pat and surrender to “what is” rather than what’s missing.

While looking back on my journal entries this week, I came across something that I read in the Science of Mind magazine that really spoke to my heart and I would like to leave you with these words.

“One of the most frustrating times along the spiritual path occurs when NOTHING seems to be happening.  On the surface nothing seems to be happening, but underneath a great shift is occurring. Instead of feeling frustrated, it may be that life is giving you a safe place to rest and gather your energy for the journey ahead. You may not be able to see which way to go, but if you sit patiently, have faith that life has meaning and wait until the mist clears, you may find that one day you wake up to a bright blue sky that reveals a clear path leading to an even more beautiful mountain than the one you just climbed. The temptation will be to run around in the mist searching for guidance. But this will wear you out and until you stop and rest, no further path will be revealed to you until you have the energy to attempt the next climb. Trust that although nothing seems to be happening on the surface, a whole lot is happening below the surface.”

Daily Word

“All is well. What a powerful statement! When I affirm “All is well,” I am affirming that my life and the lives of those I love are in God’s care, filled with divine blessings. My trust is in God. By stating “All is well” I open myself to a flow of divine energy and everlasting love that blesses me in unimaginable ways. Just as a faucet opens to a free flow of water when it is turned on, I am open to a free flow of peace, prosperity, love and joy when I turn my heart to God. No need is too great for the power of God within me to resolve.

“If You Take Big Steps With Me, I Will Take Big Steps With You”

As I took my daily walk, I heard God’s words deep in my spirit – “If you take big steps with me, I will take big steps with you. If you take small steps with me, I will take small steps with you.”   I had forgotten those words until that moment. I trusted God 35 years ago and followed Him/Her and I wanted to trust again today with what I was being called to do. If you have been reading my blogs, you know Hawaii has changed my life and continues to nurture my body, mind and Spirit.

For several weeks now, I have been thinking and praying about moving to Hawaii to live. One day, I felt peaceful about moving here and then the next day, I felt stressed and fearful. It was disturbing to be waffling back and forth and not knowing “what I wanted.” One evening, while I was driving home from a dance, I  turned off the radio and quieted my mind.  I “went inside” to really get in touch with what I wanted to do. I saw myself in my mind’s eye returning to Rhode Island and living in my condo (which I love) to see how that felt. Immediately, I felt constricted and actually gasped as I put  my hand over my heart. Then, I took a deep breath and saw myself returning to Hawaii to live and I felt expansive, and had a sense of love and openness. “Was this my answer”? I wondered. The next day I met some friends for Easter dinner and said “I am moving to Hawaii in September” just to test the waters and see how it felt. It felt exciting!

I plan on returning to Rhode Island on June 27th for a family reunion on the 4th of July weekend. I spoke with my tenant Carrie Ann and informed her I wanted to sell my condo and asked if she was interested in buying it. She immediately said, YES!” Yikes, another big step on my journey. I know God wants the highest good for the both of us and as we prayed together,  I asked God’s blessing and that this entire process would flow with peace, ease and grace. There are some obstacles that need to be resolved but we are both trusting that God will do for us what we cannot do for ourselves. I would appreciate your prayers in this regard. I reminded her we know a “God of Miracles.”

I heard someone say this week, “We make plans and God laughs.” So “the plan” is that I will stay in Rhode Island for July and August and then move back to Hawaii in September and look for a place to live. My friend Ellen has invited me to stay in her condo on the ocean for the month of September since she will be going to Rhode Island for her grandson’s wedding. I hope God doesn’t laugh and that this is truly His/Her plan for my life. In all honesty, I only want God’s plan and don’t want to be here if it is not His/Her will for my life. That is why this  is my favorite scripture (Jeremiah 29:11) which has been in my heart for years. “For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the lord, plans to prosper you. Plans to give you hope and a future.”

I am ready to take BIG STEPS with God for I know He/She will take BIG STEPS with me. This is an “extreme step in faith” for me and I know it’s God’s grace to follow my heart this way. This is the new me that has been reborn, because I lived in fear for so many years. I don’t know why I am being called to Hawaii (other than to BE love, serve and share my faith with others) and leaving my family, friends, home and my business. I am living in the mystery and following my heart rather than my head. To be honest with you, I would never have believed at the age of 65 I would be starting all over again, but I am. I guess I have said YES to living my life to the fullest and living the adventure with Spirit that lies ahead. Every once in a while I ask myself, “Have you lost your mind?” Maybe what I have really lost is the mind that is filled with all the negatives  as to why I can’t do it, shouldn’t do it and why it won’t work. This is a big shift in my thinking because for most of my life I have tried to figure things out and control people places and things. Now, I am stepping off the cliff, knowing that God will catch me, keep me safe and hold me close. For me, it is truly about TRUST – trusting in Divine guidance and love. My prayer is “God, guide me and I will follow you.”

When I feel afraid, I remember the words “If you take big steps with me, I will take big steps with you. If you take small steps with me, I will take small steps with you.”

Science of Mind

“We are completely responsible for our lives. We are accountable for our experiences of life. I create this experience using my deepest wisdom and love. When we operate from the realization of self-responsibility, we are empowered to create an experience of life that is creative, meaningful, joyful and of service to the world. This is our true destiny. I am the only actor in my own experience.”

Today’s Angel Card reading – Doreen Virtue

What Do You Desire?

You now have the opportunity to write the script according to your heart’s true desires. Once you clearly decide upon your true desires and know that you’re ready and deserving of them, they’ll rush into your life as if by magic. This card comes to you because you have been waiting for external signs of what you should do next. The angels say that the answer comes from inside of you. You must decide what you want before anything can change. Carve out time to meditate upon your true heart’s desires, and know that you deserve the best, as we all do.

“I Have Wings to Fly”

About a month ago I had a dream that I found a small dead bird on the ground. I picked it up and put it on my car seat. I later got out of my car and placed the bird on the sidewalk. To my surprise, the bird came alive and had huge beautiful purple wings. I pay attention to my dreams and really felt like God was giving me a message for my life. God was saying “What you thought was dead has been resurrected and you now have wings to fly.” I was so excited that when I went to yard sales the next day, I was looking for a picture or something with purple wings. I didn’t find anything, but kept the image of the purple wings close to my heart.

A few days ago, I met with Rev. Ian Taylor who is the leader of Concordia Center for Spiritual Living. I had a picture in my purse of me getting ready to go zip lining in Hawaii. As I was leaving, I pulled out the picture to show Ian. As he stared at the picture, it seemed like minutes before he said anything. In fact, I said, “Do you need your glasses, do you know that it’s me in the picture?” He smiled and said, “I know it’s you, but all I see are the wings.” “What wings, I exclaimed!” I was shocked and couldn’t believe my eyes when I looked at the picture again-beautiful purple tinged wings on my back. Why hadn’t I seen the wings before this moment, I wondered?

I thought about this and realized how often something is right in front of me and I don’t see it. When I focus on what’s missing, lack and not having enough, I miss the abundance and miracles that are right in front of me. Sometimes we need others to show us what is in front of us. We are all connected and are all one. I needed Rev. Ian to share with me what he saw so I could see it for myself. Not only did he show me my wings in the picture, but casually gave me the title for my next book. “I Know it’s GRACE.” I have received several messages from people over the past few years that God wanted me to write my next book. I have been putting the stories together in a word document, but it never felt like it was the right time to write the book. I know it’s time now and isn’t it wonderful to be going to Mother Maui to write my next book, “I Know it’s GRACE.”

Things are progressing for my trip to Maui and money keeps “showing up.” I received a small check from my doctor’s office and have no idea why they sent it to me. This has never happened before and I ask no questions, but just say “thank you God.” I have been receiving an annuity check every month for the last 10 years. The annuity checks were scheduled to stop in September of this year. For some reason, the checks keep coming and I just received a check for the month of December. Thank you God for you are my source.

My friend Eileen and her husband recently bought a retirement home on the Big Island of Hawaii (but they are not living there full time yet.) Eileen will be going there for 3 months in January and has invited me to stay with her in her new home. I plan on flying to the Big Island from Maui and spending 2 weeks with her. She has already contacted her church and told them about me. I will be speaking with the leader next week to schedule a date for a workshop and a book signing. It just keeps getting better and better. As I continue to have faith and trust in God’s perfect timing and provisions for my life, my heart rejoices to see the doors opening and golden opportunities coming my way.

Remember, we must step out in faith first and trust before the Universe opens doors and brings the right people and opportunities to us. I have learned that WHEN YOU LEAP, YOU REAP and God gives you wings to fly. And while you are leaping into the unknown and the mystery, Spirit takes over and all of your needs are provided for.

Expectant Faith

“Expectancy is confidently knowing that something good is unfolding and anticipating its arrival. God is my source. There is no lack in the kingdom and nothing is beyond the goodness of God. While others may speak of gloom and lack in the world, I expect the abundance of Spirit. With faith, I expect my good and claim it now.” Daily Word

As I thought about God calling me to move to Hawaii for 6 months, I realized that it has been a process that has been unfolding for over a year – maybe my whole life time. My intention over the next few months is to share with you a glimpse of my personal journey of stepping out in faith so that you can step out in faith, take a risk and take action to live your dreams.

I met Ellen (my earth angel) in June 2010 after speaking at her church in E. Greenwich, RI. She invited me to stay with her at her condo overlooking the ocean in Maui, Hawaii. I took her up on her offer and spent 2 weeks with her in November 2010. When I was leaving, she gave me a card that read “Keep the vision of coming back to Hawaii.”

A couple of months after meeting Ellen, I had an intuitive reading on the phone from a woman whom I had never met. She asked “Are you planning a trip soon?” I responded, “Yes, I am going to Hawaii in a couple of months.” She said, “Hawaii is going to be the nucleus of something really big and you will be moving.” That is all I remember about the reading, but it stayed close in my heart.

I spent the month of September at Ellen’s condo while she traveled with her family to Europe. While there, I had several speaking engagements and met incredibly powerful women who had been called to Maui to live. They said, “Mother Maui is calling you and needs your energy.” It is hard to describe the feminine energy in Maui that pervaded my whole being. I felt like I was in an altered state for most of my stay. It is this energy that is reawakening feminine balancing energy to the world and I am so grateful that God is calling me back to Maui.

Even before going to Maui, I knew something in my business had shifted, but I didn’t know what it was and it was scary. Deep within, I knew I was being prepared for something major to change in my life. I was learning not to push things, but to allow things to unfold naturally.

It was during my prayer while in Maui, I asked God, “What is the next chapter in my life?” Something shifted deep inside me and I started to think “Why can’t I come back here to teach, speak and coach?” What is stopping me from living my dream and moving to Maui? Nothing. For the next couple of weeks before returning home, I prayed and meditated and asked for signs that it was God calling me to Maui and not just my ego. I prayed daily with Goddess cards and each day I received powerful cards affirming that it was Mother Maui calling me back.

I came home and announced to my family and friends that I was moving to Maui in January for 6 months. Now that is stepping out in faith because I need to rent my condo for 6 months, find a place to live in Maui for free and find work. I immediately took action and started to advertise my condo to nearby colleges, hospitals and on Craigslist. God knows what I need and I am trusting that every detail is already done in the mind of God.

I am acting “as if” it has already happened. I am cleaning out my condo from top to bottom and making space for my new right and perfect tenant. I am letting go of the old and packing my personal things that mean so much to me (my angels.) I am praying for my new tenant that she/he will find peace and healing in my sacred space. It would be easier to do all this if I already had a tenant to rent my condo and a place to live in Maui, but that is not what faith is about to me.

I know I am following God and my heart’s desire because of the peace I have in my heart. Yes, I sometimes feel afraid, but I feel it and do it anyway. I feel like I am enveloped in God’s grace and love at this time in my life. I am grateful and stay focused on the positive. I feel the joy of returning to Mother Maui.

I just received this email as I finished this divine download:

“On this day of your life, dear friend, I believe God wants you to know that safety is not the thing you should look for in the future. Joy is what you should look for. Security and joy may not come in the same package. They can…but they also cannot.  There is no guarantee. If your primary concern is a guarantee of security, you may never experience the truest joys of life. This is not a suggestion that you become reckless, but it is an invitation to at least become daring.”

HEARING THE SMALL STILL VOICE WITHIN

That voice may be referred to as God, Intuition, Spirit, Higher Self, Soul, Higher Power or Universe. People often ask me, “How do you know it’s God giving you messages and not just your own voice?” The answer is: “I don’t always know.  It’s only afterwards when people tell me it was exactly what they needed to hear.”

Sometimes it’s scary, my heart pounds and I want to walk the other way when I receive a message for someone. I could be totally off base. I need to let go of my ego and not worry about what others will think of me. I’ve learned to let go of the outcome.

It’s about trusting God has a Divine Assignment if I’m willing to listen and follow through when I receive a message for someone. It often seems like it comes out of nowhere and just pops into my head. I feel a quickening in my spirit and then I listen and am still.

Listening and following through are key elements. Usually, when I don’t want to do it, it’s a signal that it’s from Spirit. Sometimes I know what I’m going to say and other times, I have no idea and the message comes when I open my mouth. I trust it will come and it always does.

I usually don’t question anymore when I hear the small still voice of God within.  It may not make sense to me, but I do it anyway and then watch the miracles unfold. The following story is one of them.

Mary lived a few blocks away, but I had never just walked to her house to say hello. While taking my walk this one day, I felt a strong pull from Spirit to go to her house.  I had no idea why I was being led there, but found myself taking a right turn into her neighborhood.  I felt disappointed when I arrived because her car wasn’t there.  Did I not hear you right God? I thought you were leading me.

When I arrived home, I called Mary and left a message that I had visited her. Is there a message you want me to give her God? And the words came. “Believe in yourself, your gifts and trust your journey.”  I hung up not knowing if the words meant anything to her. I didn’t hear from Mary for several days and quickly placed it out of my mind.

Mary called when she returned home, all excited. “Pat, you are not going to believe it.  I really needed to hear your message the day you called.  The timing was divine. You had no idea that I was away for a few days at a “Journey” workshop.

During the workshop, the leader suggested I take a break and go outside for a walk because of my feelings of frustration with the process. Others in the group seemed to be getting it, but nothing seemed to be happening with me.

I listened to my telephone messages when I returned to the group.  And there you were with your anointed words from God.  I screamed and immediately gave the phone to my friend to listen too.  After that, everything shifted for me. I felt God’s love and presence and knew I was exactly where I needed to be.”

The more you step out in faith, trust and listen to that small still voice within, the more you make yourself available for Divine Assignments.

Ask Spirit to lead you; trust you will be led; and then step out in faith. Start out small and test the waters. Your words could transform and change another’s life dramatically. Like the time I was led to give a message of God’s love to a woman who was about to commit suicide. God’s words saved her life.

It’s a joy to know I’m making a difference in someone’s life and helping them on their journey to healing and wholeness. It really is fun. Try it you might like it! You can do the same because you have the same Power within you.

Addiction: Deficit of the Spirit

Addiction is a family disease that affects the person abusing as well as family members. Often likened to having “a hole in the soul,” it is a spiritual deprivation that requires the development of an inner spirituality for full recovery.

Spirituality is a connectedness with self, others and a greater power, referred to sometimes as God, or higher power, Source or Universe. Spirituality may be practiced through organized religion or not.

Those who are addicted are disconnected from themselves, from others and from

their Source. They are lonely, scared and confused. Often their lives are out of control and they’ve lost family members, jobs or homes due to their addiction.

The stress of living with someone who is addicted can have numerous effects. Physical problems such as headaches, high blood pressure, insomnia, colitis or heart disease. Emotional problems include anger, irritability, loneliness, guilt, resentment and depression. A person may find themselves withdrawn, isolated, embarrassed, aggressive and controlling. Hopelessness and lack of faith may also befall a person living with an addict.

Spiritual coaching can help both the addict and those living with one. The goal is to support the movement from a place of dis-ease to a place of happiness and peace. All problems are spiritual problems in the sense that they arise when we feel disconnected from the Source of our being. Spiritual coaching supports a movement from an experience of disconnect to one of deep connection. The effects of coaching is to experience more peace and joy, a deepening of relationships, a stronger connection to God and others, finding true purpose and being present in a way that reflects inner love.
